Tasting of Ermitage Blanc – Domaine Philippe et Vincent Jaboulet
About the House
Domaine Philippe & Vincent Jaboulet was born in 2006, following the sale of Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné. Philippe and his son Vincent kept hold of family parcels, notably in Hermitage, Crozes‑Hermitage, and Cornas, to build a small-scale, exacting production. They own a parcel in Hermitage dedicated to Ermitage Blanc, made from 100 % Roussanne, a low-yielding grape with tightly packed bunches that brings finesse and delicacy. The terroir is made up of loess, with vines around 40 years old facing due south. The domaine is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale.
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The color is a brilliant golden yellow, sometimes with green highlights, evoking the wine’s radiant light and the grape’s ripeness.
Nose
On the nose, floral and vanilla aromas unfold, alongside notes of ripe white fruit, toasted almonds, and, at times, honey and sweet spice. These nuances speak to careful aging and impressive aromatic complexity.
Palate
On the palate, the attack is broad and creamy, carried by Roussanne’s richness. You’ll find lovely structure, a velvety texture, balancing freshness, and notes of ripe fruit, honey, spice, and a persistent finish that’s slightly bitter and elegant.
Food & Wine Pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with noble fish such as turbot in cream sauce or lobster, poultry in sauce, scallops, aged cheeses like Comté or Beaufort, and delicate dishes with cream or gentle spice.
Aging Potential
You can enjoy this wine now, but it will gain aromatic complexity with a few years in the cellar. It’s best to keep it for 5 to 8 years, or even until 2025‑2028 depending on the vintage.
Our Rating (out of 20)
